I'm a writer in Santa Monica, CA. I spent some years at Newsweek and some more writing for TV. My freelance journalism has appeared in The New Yorker, Time, Slate, The Boston Globe, Fast Company, Fortune Small Business, Washington Journalism Review, American Journalism Review, American Heritage and TV Guide, and on PBS.
I've been writing about popular culture for more than 20 years, and about technology for almost that long. I've been fascinated the last few years with the way the two have started to intertwine, so that's what I'll be looking at here: Technology, pop culture and the places where they meet. I'll also be poking around in the world of blogging, microblogging, nanoblogging, micronanoblogging and whatever comes next.

An iPhone photo a day, every day for a year.
Bill,
I’ve been wondering about what to do. Last time I wondered like this it was about do I buy original Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris bobbleheads from the 1960’s. A few days later, I bid for and got The Mick. A year later, I added Roger. And I’m so glad I did.
Looks like I’m headed for the same fate with the Beatles.
For me, they make up the Fab 6.
Just give in. It’s inevitable, like the eventual moment when the earth plunges into the sun.

See in context »I gave in and bought Rubber Soul through Abbey Road (minus Yellow Sub and MMT), and so far, the White Album remaster seems to be the best, though Revolver gives it a run. Not only that, but they’ve finally made the White Album look a bit like the original – the cover is embossed, rather than just a black printed ‘The Beatles’.
I’m due to hear the mono remasters in the near future… we’ll see how they compare.
Yeah, I’m curious about the mono discs, which I think are available only as a boxed set. Nobody ever said these guys aren’t shrewd marketers.
