Conflicting Reports: Is Ricky Hatton Retiring?

There are conflicting reports coming out about Ricky Hatton’s supposed return to the ring this year. Here’s a so far unsubstantiated claim from the Mirror in the UK:

Hatton apparently told mates during a drunken stag do in Tenerife at the weekend that he was ready to ditch his comeback plans.

The Hitman, who has not fought since being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao 10 months ago, was due back in Manchester today from the break and his family are keen to speak to him.

They have been working on his comeback fight and have been given a date by Sky of June 26 for his return to the ring.

And then a follow up report from BoxingScene.com stating that Hatton spoke to Sky Sports and has ‘moved swiftly to scotch rumours alleging he is set to quit the sport’. Skysports.com has no mention of the interview, so it’s hard to decipher whether the update is accurate too.

Hatton was devastated by Manny Pacquiao 10 months ago, suffering a brutal knockout inside two one sided rounds. Many people in the sport have urged him to retire, but Hatton indicated he would like to return some time this year.
