As far as, mr. Goldstein is concerned, I loathe the chattering choir at Protein Wisdom and, in the comments above, I expressed my disdain for the site inter alia not for mr. Goldstein.

But, after seeing happyfeet’s inept and inarticulate defense of allowing racist hate posts on the site, I decided to one up the little guy. You see, he has a serious mancrush on mr. Goldstein, so I like to hit him where it might hurt. He claims otherwise, but the first time he says something true will be…well, the first time.

If that offends you, well, such is the internet.

I don’t understand why you have to ceaselessly travel the internet in search of an opportunity to grind the axe you have for Jeff Goldstein. I’ve seen you do so in the threads at other blogs regardless of whether he was central to the topic at hand. It seems a little pathetic to me…

And Barrett, obviously you chose comments to cite that support your thesis, and I appreciate the candor with which you admit, in a most banal fashion, that you purposely said provacative things. But what I fail to see is why the effects of being a provacateur are so surprising to anyone, let alone such an astute and erudite person as yourself.

I will say though that it is a low blow to deride the PW commentariat for introducing or adhering to specious arguments. Especially so when you try and parry a commenters thrust about the videos of school children being organized to sing ballads of, and to, Obama, by drawing an equivalent to songs sung of Bush in Jesus Camp.

Frankly, you essay sounds more like a person expressing shock and surprise that they were struck by the handle of a rake after stepping on it’s tines. You deliberately provoked the PW commentariat for “editorial” purposes, and cherry picked the resulting blow-back to shape the narrative in the fashion you desire. That seems less like “research” and “journalism”, and more like vengeful propagandizing.

By the way, if Michelle Obama is a failure, because all she did was nothing with her fancy degree, what degree of success do you assign your idol? He can’t teach and can’t hold a job. Comment # 280 is a vociferous shout out to racism and white purity. Whereas, you get shouted down whenever you post and I was shouted down whenever I posted (including the few times I agreed with them), sk can post a racist rant and receive the silence of a sleeping baby.

My opinion, arrived at after several profane and silly commenters attacked me at other blogs, is that Protein Wisdom is a neo-Marxist cult of personality. Not Maarxist in goals, of course, (Ayn Rand has nothing on the clueless happyfeet, for example), but Marxist in tactics: defense of the Leader, bunker mentality, and (this is the most important part) EVERYTHING is political. These people have no other interests, save politics. They feign interest in the Leader’s obsessions, but everything, from a cheeseburger order to advice Ken Jennings gave some 16 year old 20 years ago(!) is political.

If there were than 30 of them and they were capable of any electoral power (they couldn’t even stop McCain and I haven’t seen Godlstein emigrate to Idaho just yet), then I’d fear for my country. But, they’re just the latest iteration of Freemasonry conspiracists and Bircher fools, so, in the end, I find their brand of anger amusing.

And, like always, when the light goes on, the cockroaches are nowhere to be found. Only Happyfeet can man up.

Advantage: happyfeet, who is not inane, as opposed to timb, who may or may not be inane but who is decidedly a mean-spirited person.
