Former KKK leader to run for Congress in Indiana
Given today’s hysteric political climate, I suppose it was only a matter of time. Just a shame it had to come from my home state of Indiana.
As reported from Fort Wayne, former KKK leader Tom Metzger, from Warsaw, Ind., is running for Congress:
The 71-year-old former KKK Grand Dragon and founder of the White Aryan Resistance has launched a campaign as a write-in candidate. He advertised his candidacy with a small ad in the Warsaw-Times Union Newspaper. It urged people frustrated with “the Republicrats” to “send them a real message.” The seven-line ad concluded with “Write in Thomas L. Metzger for Souder’s job, 3rd District.”
“I ran the ad for a week and I might bring some hillbilly bands into town to get the campaign going,” Metzger told NewsChannel 15. “They can call me any name they want, but I’m going to tell the truth.”
Far fetched? Probably. But Klan politicians in Indiana wouldn’t be anything new. In the 1920s, the Klan held majorities in both houses of the Indiana state legislature. Ed Jackson, a Klan member, was even elected governor in 1925.
Things have obviously changed since then. Indiana even went blue for Obama. Of course it’s highly unlikely this guy gets any real support, but stranger things have happened in the American heartland. Remember when nearly half of Americans believed the nonsense about “death panels”?
If we’re that stupid, what won’t we buy into?
On a trip I made to a jam-packed gun show last summer (read about it here), I heard scared talk about a coming race war, and saw tons of Nazi memorabilia, “birther” conspiracy literature, and even “Obama fingers” (read the article). The racially-motivated fear is out there, and it’s real. I pray Mr. Metzger is consigned to history’s ash heap with a quickness.

Write-in Candidates are virtually pretty much not candidates at all.
He’s not worthy even mentioning in the blog because he’s a flea in an ocean. You are doing him more good than harm in fact, since he’s such small-news, any mention of him he can use, no matter what the opinion.
Many Republicans in Indiana have Klan hearts.
