Needed: Hoosier Health Care Horror Stories
Do you live in or near Indianapolis? Have you been dropped by your insurer? Denied treatment or coverage? Buried in debt from medical bills? Suffered from fraud, neglect or poor treatment because of Medicare or Medicaid?
If so, I would like to talk with you. I’m looking for volunteer interview subjects to participate in a series of video shorts about health care horror stories in the heartland. The interviews shouldn’t take too long — in a perfect world, we’re looking at about an hour for set-up, and a half-hour to an hour for the interview.
Click the “email me tips” link above and send me some details about your story. I’ll get in touch with subjects whose stories fit the bill.
Hope to hear from you or someone you know. (Pass the word along!)

Austin,
I would suggest you check out the docket for small claims courts in counties throughout the state. They are apparently full of cases pending against people who can’t afford to pay their medical bills. Many local hospitals are quick to sue for their money.
I know of one case where a woman’s 20-year-old son was misdiagnosed by a doctor, put on some type of psychotropic or depression drug, the boy then committed suicide and his mother couldn’t pay the bills. She begged the court not to garnish her wages, as this would put her out of her home. The judge did it anyway. So now the woman was without her son and going lose her home.
I would also talk to the IUPUI school of Law, as their senior law students work pro bono on cases like this. I know the professor who works with the students if you would like to contact me.
