Ladies and Gentlemen…It is official, Lou Dobbs is leaving CNN…Finally…

According to The New York Times, the longtime CNN anchor “whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday [November 11, 2009] that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.

A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program this evening and that his resignation is “effective immediately; tonight’s program will be his last on CNN”.

His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.

Although no one is certain whether he will land at another television news network know for its ‘fairness’ and ‘balance’, suffice it to say that many life-long fans of CNN wish him well in his future endeavors and gratefully exhale a sigh of relief that he will no longer grace the hallowed halls of our favorite American news network.

The best response I saw on Twitter: “Lou Dobbs is stepping down to spend more time with his racism.”

Lou Dobbs for President of the United States, can you hear it now? President Dobbs, Americans want change!

Was it me, or did his farewell seem to imply a run for office in his immediate future? He has that great mix of phony populism and phony intelligence that Americans seem to be craving right now…
