Cops taser man with his hands already on police car

Rolando Ruiz is the man featured in yet another taser video making the rounds on Youtube. Ruiz was in police custody after being arrested by a Minneapolis police officer for reportedly throwing a brick at an officer’s vehicle.

Ruiz, who is 18-years-old, is seen in the video with his hands on the car before the officer appears to hold the taser to the back of Ruiz’s neck for 15 seconds.

Chief Tim Dolan called the video “very disturbing” and has asked the FBI to review it.

We’re always told tasers are the “safe” alternative to deadly force, and that police officers need to carry electric guns for purposes of self-defense only. This video appears to shatter the self-defense myth as does this recent story about a 51-year-old man, who was shot dead by officers after trying to escape his tasering.

There are numerous examples of officers and other types of guards using tasers excessively as authoritarian tools, while an unthinking pack of blood hungry Americans cheers on the violence.

As usual, we’ll hear (and read from the anonymous comments left by brave Internet users) all about how Ruiz deserved this treatment, almost as if citizens prefer to keep this kind of horrific police-issued violence at a safe distance rather than imagine that they, one day, could be on the receiving end of a 50,000 volt electrocution.

While it’s certainly wrong to vandalize a police car, and it’s arguably rude to get mouthy with an officer, nowhere is it written that these crimes shall be punished by electrocution.

Good lord. You should see some of the comments on youtube.

I am paraphrasing here, but they seem to generally be in the strain of.

    “maybe he mouthed off”
so should I infer that if someone insults me at work (customer service) or mouths off because I won’t waive their ninth late fee, I can go over to their house and beat them to a bloody pulp with a bat?

“they didn’t show it in context”
what are they expecting to see to justify tasering an unarmed man who seems to be cooperating?

    “could have been worse”
right, because compared to the SS or the Iron Guard the Stasi and Securitate were an improvement. That makes it all better right?
