Deepak Chopra Wants You to Get Cancer

My favorite Mike Myers character
What’s this? Deepak Chopra is a dangerous charlatan and a shitty writer, but he is inching toward making a defensible point in an editorial published yesterday. I’ll be honest: I read it because it had a hilarious headline/byline combination:
What’s worse, health care or cancer?
Deepak Chopra

Well, Deepak, I’m leaning toward “cancer,” but I’ll give you a few paragraphs to make your case.
Upon reading the story, it looks like Deepak is ineptly making an argument about preventative care and ineffective treatments and wasted health care spending, sort of (who knows if he knows he is making this point, actually). But his prescription is not something simple like “a guaranteed high standard of care for all Americans,” and when he says “cancer is a red herring” he doesn’t follow it up with hey look at the nearly equal cancer survival rates in noted socialist nightmare states France and Canada, that is proof that we can cut costs and insure everyone and not all die, and he does mention “wellness” and his own lengthy career selling “inexpensive natural treatments” (which means “bullshit”), but he is not killing you as much as he normally is, today, we’ll give him that.
