RIPped from the Headlines
David Carradine’s death in Bangkok has caused a media frenzy. Thailand hookers, red lingerie, and death by autoerotic asphyxiation certainly gets people talking. Plus, the guy was a cult star, of Kill Bill and Kung Fu fame. His funeral was attended by over 400 people yesterday.
His family is not happy about all the attention. Not a shocker, given the undignified nature of his death. (Though being that kinky at age 72 is impressive in a way.)
The exact nature of his death became subject to public speculation thanks to graphic photos published by a Thai newspaper. I’ve resisted looking at the photos. I feel like much of today’s privacy is predicated on our decisions about when and when not to invade it.
News reports indicate that the photos show Carradine’s body hanging naked in a closet. It’s too late to stop their publication in Thailand, but Carradine’s family is going to try to stop their distribution in the U.S.
The publication by a Thai tabloid of grisly crime scene photos has set off a furor, with Carradine’s family hiring Los Angeles lawyer-to-the-stars Mark Geragos to threaten a civil suit against anyone publishing the photos in the U.S.

Fear of being sued and basic decency may keep U.S. news sources from running the photos, but courts have decided before in rulings about crime scene photos that privacy rights do not extend to the dead.

Now that the funeral’s over we can start in with the David Carradine jokes?
i heard that he just misread the instructions. He was supposed to tie the rope around the head while IT’S hanging.
Too bad there’s probably an entire generation out there that mostly knows him as the guru in those Yellow Book commercials.
